Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and energetic Research Associate, Discovery Peptide Chemistry to join Mariana’s Chemistry organization. The successful candidate will be a contributor to our targeted oncology platform in a pre-clinical, fast-paced discovery research environment through the purification and characterization of peptides. They will also work closely with the Medicinal Chemistry and Biology teams to support our drug discovery portfolio.

 

The role requires the candidate to maintain broad scientific knowledge of high-performance liquid chromatography to execute peptide purification and characterization. The role also requires the candidate to become familiar with peptide synthesis and perform other chemistry tasks to support drug discovery efforts. The candidate should be a creative individual with good communication and interpersonal skills, and a willingness to step outside of their comfort zone.



Illustrative Breadth of Responsibilities: 

  • Perform liquid chromatographic purification of peptides with high quality and yield.
  • Conduct analyses for characterization of peptides using ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatographic and mass spectrometric tools.
  • Participate in purification/analytical chemistry discussions in a cross-functional team environment to support drug discovery efforts.
  • Work with medicinal chemists to expeditiously deliver high quality peptides for downstream biological evaluation.
  • Interpret and summarize analytical data and prepare laboratory notebook records.
  • Deliver results to meet aggressive project timelines.


Requirements/Skills:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Chemistry with 0–2+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Peptide experience is a plus.
  • Exposure to high-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry using modern instrumentation and techniques.
  • Ability to work independently with some supervision and to work well with others in a dynamic and highly collaborative environment.
  • Ability to solve problems in creative and effective ways.
  • Good organizational, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
