The Research Scientist provides laboratory and scientific research support services to assist with day-to-day activities and scientific clearance support services.
General Duties:

Perform molecular diagnostic and support work associated with the detection and characterization of infections caused by numerous biological agents.

Provide samples (blood products) handling, including receipt, and processing of the samples for molecular genetic studies.

Prepare samples for shipment.

Provide maintenance of laboratory space and equipment.
-
Perform and monitor the full range of specialized tests and non-routine procedures for which there are standard methods and techniques.

Ensure proper collection of data and conduct experiments and studies, making adjustments in methods and procedures as appropriate during the studies or experiments.

Ensure that incoming specimens are processed and triaged maintaining “chain of custody.”

Prepare reports on scientific investigations, studies, and projects.

Develop techniques and interpretation methods to improve molecular and coagulation diagnosis.

Provide diagnostic support for epidemiologic studies and epidemic aids on emerging blood disorders and chronic hereditary disorders.
Qualifications:
-
Well versed in executing laboratory techniques related to biochemistry, genetics, cellular / molecular biology, genotyping, sequencing, etc.

Well versed in developing techniques and interpreting methods to improve molecular and coagulation diagnosis.

Substantive record of technical publications and/or presentations.

Well-versed in Microsoft Office products.

Background investigation required.
Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree required, master’s or PhD preferred in a scientific field such as Biology, Zoology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or other related field (Note: work experience may be substituted as a bachelor’s degree).

Five (5) years of professional experience working as a researcher, scientist, microbiologist and / or laboratorian with demonstrated skills working within generally accepted laboratory practices.

3-5 years of experience working in a laboratory space working with samples.
