Work Locations available:
Minimum $36K yearly (overtime eligible)

 North Lawndale: 2839 W Fillmore St, Chicago, IL 60612

 The shifts are 12 hours –  7 am 7 pm OR 7 pm to 7 am. There is no shift pick or preference. Typically you'll work night shift until you've earned seniority. You would have 4 days on, 3 days off each week

General Summary:  

The Correctional Residence Counselor (CRC-II), under direction of the Chief of Security, supervises and coordinates the activities of the assigned CRC-I staff ensuring proper security, sanitation and safety requirements are maintained in the Safer Foundation’s Adult Transition Centers. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Performs the duties of shift supervisor at one of the all-male Adult Transition Centers 
  • Supervises CRC I security staff during assigned shift to ensure the safety and security needs of residents, staff and visitors  
  • Ensures assigned duties are carried out by center residents 
  • Pre-approves and submits time off requests for staff. Participates in the selection of CRC-I staff 
  • Ensures that proper security, sanitation and safety requirements are met; maintains surveillance of residents; supervises resident counts, searches for contraband, and the distribution of medication. 
  • Participates in the orientation of all new facility residents; ensures that residents have been advised of and adhere to rules and regulations of the facility. 
  • Coordinates transportation of residents to and from work locations, medical appointments and recreational activities; maintains accurate vehicle records and reports. 
  • Reviews reports prepared by assigned staff such as resident count sheets, medication logs and sign out sheets; prepares and maintains records and reports of any unusual resident activities. 
  • Provides instruction to residents and subordinate staff on emergency procedures; advises supervisor of any emergency situations as they arise. 
  • Provide guidance to residents on personal grooming, public transportation, parole requirements and other areas as required. 
  • Take responsibility and accountability for the performance of coordinator duties by appropriate staff. 
  • Immediately notify supervisor anytime a resident test negative for drugs or alcohol or if drugs or alcohol are found in the facility. Send an incident report within one hour of a reportable incident to the IDOC team and local Safer staff. 
  • Provide immediate notification to the supervisor on duty when there is a major incident in the facility, such as fighting or a medical emergency. The supervisor will confirm that the incident is reportable and which IDOC staff members should receive the report. 
  • Ensure that all reportable incidents are reported within one hour after occurrence. 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • A minimum 3 years’ experience in corrections, security or similar work environment desired. 
  • One year of supervisory experience required. 
  • Ability to make effective decisions in stressful situations. 

 

Education and Experience: 

  • A.A. in the Human Services field required.  
  • Bachelor’s Degree desired.  
  • Related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
