SARA is looking for a remarkably talented, motivated, and experienced Senior Cost Accountant to support activities out of our Colorado Springs location. The candidate will have the opportunity to grow and learn, supporting talented engineers, physicists, and technicians on long-standing programs and new programs supporting our customers.

 

We are seeking a meticulous accountant with strong cost accounting skills and a background in government accounting. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and analyzing cost data, assisting in budgeting and forecasting, and providing insights to improve our financial performance. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments. This position is based in an office environment.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Analyze production costs to include CIP labor, material and overhead expenses
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and report inventory valuation
  • Prepare and review cost reports and financial statements
  • Develop and maintain cost accounting processes, inventory controls, and records
  • Become the SME for Costpoint Inventory module
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, procurement, and other departments to ensure accurate cost data
  • Provide recommendations for cost control and efficiency improvements
  • Monitor changes in raw material prices and their impact on product costs, ensure compliance with government pricing regulations
  • Drive month and year-end revenue recognition process
  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities
  • Prepare cost audits and assist in internal and external audits
  • Assist in the budgeting and forecasting process
  • Support other areas of general financial accounting as needed

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 10 years of experience as a Cost Accountant
  • Proven experience in government accounting
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, government accounting principles, and cost accounting standards
  • Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance
  • May require light physical effort, involving standing, sitting and use of hands while performing duties, carrying or lifting up to 20 pounds
  • Working environment is indoor, moderately quiet, reasonably clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA) 
  • Experience with government contracts and funding regulations
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint ERP system

Pay Range:  $95,000 - $105,000 DOE
