We have an exclusive opening to join the team of high-calibre lawyer writers at Practical Law Australia. We are seeking an expert senior lawyer who values a flexible role, a supportive team and a competitive salary and benefits.

This role can be based in Sydney or Melbourne.

About the Role

In the role of Senior Lawyer Writer, Corporate, you will:

  • Plan, research, write, edit and maintain premium quality Practical Law resources for the Corporate Transactions and Company Law practice areas, including practice notes, standard documents, checklists, drafting notes and legal updates, in accordance with established writing style and guidance.

  • Keep up to date with corporate law topics and monitor the legal, practice and market developments relevant to lawyers in both in-house and private practice environments.

  • Support internal peer review processes to ensure content is legally correct and kept continuously updated and maintained to reflect all relevant legal developments and current market practice.

  • Meet with external customers, industry and sector experts to build and maintain a superior understanding of corporate and company law and related developments to ensure the delivery of relevant and premium quality content that anticipates, meets and exceeds customer needs.

  • Provide legal expertise in responding to queries from external customers about corporate and company law and practice.

  • Assist in the planning, development and publication of commissioned content authored by corporate lawyers from private practice and in-house legal teams.

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Senior Lawyer Writer, Corporate if you have/are:

  • Admitted to practice as a lawyer in Australia.

  • 5 years+ PQE experience working as a corporate lawyer, most recently in a top/mid-tier private practice or an in-house role, and you have:

  • An in-depth understanding of corporate law and company law.

  • Experienced in and have knowledge of some, not necessarily all, of the following areas: equity capital markets, private equity/venture capital transactions, start-ups, and company law (including corporate governance).

  • A genuine and demonstrable interest in corporate law, and in helping to re-invent the way legal know-how works.

  • Done any of the following: published articles in prior roles or engaged with new methods of providing content.

  • Demonstrable interest in writing and can write well, with excellent attention to detail.

  • The ability to work independently and communicate effectively with your manager and the rest of the Practical Law team.

  • A proactive, get-it-done mindset, always looking for solutions and are not shy about pursuing them.

  • A positive attitude, and are team-orientated, flexible, and analytical.

  • The creativity to conceive resources to be written, and evaluate drafting ideas and approaches.
