Senior Mechanical Engineer


 


Reporting directly to the Vice President Engineering within the Engineering department, The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for combining knowledge of design, engineering and manufacturing processes; the Senior Mechanical Engineer will primarily focus on developing new lighting products and assist in the creation of product prototypes. Extensive design work will be accomplished through the use of CAD/CAM programs daily. This position requires daily communications with offshore and local vendors related to part and manufacturing designs as well as any issues that may arise. This role serves as a mentor to department new hires, juniors, and other Team Members.


 


Responsibilities:



  • Handles multiple projects concurrent to one another and is responsible for keeping on schedule and within cost parameters.

  • Develops new products from initial concepts presented by Design and Marketing Departments for annual product launch.

  • Initiates the creation of prototypes, lab tests, assembly line research, and working with Design Department inquiries, ETL submittals, show samples etc. at appropriate time in project schedule.

  • Daily extensive corresponded with both local and offshore vendors.

  • Creation of options/concepts aimed at resolving design requirements on issues related to fit, function, esthetics, and cost targets.

  • Troubleshoots manufacturing, assembly, and design issues.

  • Assists others within and outside the department as it relates to engineering issues.

  • Independently addresses manufacturing and interdepartmental issues that arise during the development cycle to keep projects on track.

  • Works with the Data Entry team to ensure accurate entry to BOM’s into the system.

  • Effectively communicates with co-workers and cross-functional departments.

  • Work closely with our overseas partners through email/phone (daily) and in-person (average one to two trips annually) .

  • Be present in the workplace to effectively elaborate and communicate amongst co-works and teams

  • Works effectively with others in a team environment to accomplish organizational goals and to identify and resolve problems.

Qualifications:



  • 6 years’ previous experience in Mechanical Engineering

  • College Graduate from a school accredited by the U.S. Department of Education in Mechanical Engineering. Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

  • Strong aptitude for and proficiency navigating Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Proven Mechanical aptitude and demonstrated problem solving skills. Understanding of mechanical design of architectural lighting products, including decorative, recessed and task luminaires – with a particular focus on integrating LED and other innovative technologies.

  • Ability to create 3D and 2D documentation of all design work; Both SolidWorks and Pro/E CREO preferred, but prior experience using an alternative software package is acceptable.

  • Experience developing new products from initial concepts presented by Design and Marketing Departments for annual product launch.

  • Ability to initiate the creation of prototypes, lab tests, assembly line research, and working with Design Department inquiries, ETL submittals, show samples etc. at appropriate time in project schedule

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a key focus on taking a proactive approach.

  • Creation of options/concepts aimed at resolving design requirements on issues related to fit, function, esthetics, and cost targets

  • Troubleshoots manufacturing, assembly, and design issues

  • Assists others within and outside the department as it relates to Engineering issues

  • Capable of independently addressing manufacturing and interdepartmental issues that arise during the development cycle to keep projects on track

  • Works with the Data Entry Team to ensure accurate entry to BOM’s into the system

  • Effectively communicate with co-works and inter departmental teams

  • Work may require some domestic and overseas travel, 2-3 times per year

  • direction.

  • Strong project management, communication, and presentation skills.

  • Experience in interior design, custom home building products, luxury home furnishings and/or lighting industry a plus

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with a strong attention to detail

  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and changing priorities

  • Must demonstrate maturity in judgement, commitment, dependability, punctuality and adherence to agreed-upon schedule as determined by manager

  • Ability to achieve results both independently and through others by fostering a spirit of teamwork and cooperation

  • Demonstrate exceptional communication across all contact channels, including email, chat and phone


 


Compensation Range: $110,000 - $129,000
