Description

Senior Staff Accountant


Purpose: In this role, you will ensure the reliability, accuracy, and timely reporting of the financial and management reporting within the company and assist the VP of Finance with review, analysis and documentation of processes, procedures, and internal controls.


 


Global Leadership Network (GLN) is a nonprofit organization located in South Barrington, Illinois.  Our purpose is to introduce more people to Jesus and fully follow Him.  We accomplish this by serving pastors and equipping churches in order to inspire Kingdom-oriented leaders around the world through the Global Leadership Summit and other leadership development resources.


The Global Leadership Summit is attended by 60,000+ leaders in 400 sites (primarily churches) throughout the United States.  The Summit is translated into 50+ languages and held in over 800 sites in 110 countries reaching over 240,000 international leaders from September to April.

Hybrid Work Schedule: This position currently has a hybrid schedule which includes working in the office Tuesday through Thursday for two scheduled Core Weeks each month and the option to work from home or in the office on Mondays, Fridays, and Tuesday through Thursdays during non-Core Weeks.

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer


 


Primary Responsibilities:


Daily Financial Transactions & Month End Close



  • Ensure that financial transactions are properly recorded, classified, summarized, and supported.

  • Maintain the chart of accounts to support the organizational direction and needs.

  • Review Nexonia and Bill.com entries for proper support, coding, and authorizations

  • Oversee the timely financial closing cycle.

  • Ensure accurate monthly recording for all revenue and expenditures.

  • Ensure accurate recording of accounts receivable invoices and timely payment application.

  • Ensure timely bank deposits and communications with the GLN team.

  • Review general ledger activity for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness, interpreting trends or deviations and making recommendations for corrective action. 

  • Manage balance sheet review meetings to identify issues and verify propriety of general ledger accounts.


Financial and Management Reporting



  • Provide timely and accurate monthly profit and loss GL detail and financial reports to all business units.  

  • Collaborate with the GLN team to analyze accounts and research financial variances.

  • Prepare financial reports and summaries for Exec team, Finance Committee and Board


Internal Controls and Process Documentation



  • Work with the International team to ensure signed Grant Agreements for all country funding and documentation of funding deviations between actual spend and budgeted expectations.

  • Collaborate with the entire staff to document processes and identify controls for recording revenue and expenses.


Audits, Budgets and Projections



  • Support staff during the annual budget process with software instructions, data entry and data explanations; assist VP of Finance with annual budget development and presentation.

  • Prepare workpapers and schedules for the year end external financial statement audit.

  • Work with the VP of Finance to create projection modules.


Other Finance Responsibilities:



  • Respond to accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.

  • Support the Summit donation process.

  • Manage the sales tax process.

  • Complete special projects, analyze data, present recommended findings in a clear and concise manner to help drive the mission goals of the organization.

  • Identify inefficiencies where accounting can support the organization and assist to drive improvements and change.

  • Complete other duties as assigned by the position’s manager.

  • Actively participate in one-on-one meetings with manager, team meetings, all-staff meetings, and cross-functional meetings, as needed.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements:



  • Bachelor’s in accounting, a CPA is preferred.

  • 3 + years of general ledger and financial reporting accounting and/or auditing experience

  • Self-starter, attention to detail, and solutions oriented.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently.

  • Strong data manipulation skills with Pivot Tables, Queries, What If analysis, etc.

  • Sage Intacct experience a plus.

  • Nexonia and Bill.com experience a plus.

  • A vital relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

  • An active member of a local church that holds to a historic, orthodox understanding of biblical Christianity.
