Overview






The Social Services & Volunteer Coordinator will serve in a critical support role to the Corps Officers and a major leadership role within the Cleveland West Park Corps. They will be integrally involved in the ministry of the Corps and in the promotion of the Mission of The Salvation Army. The Social Services & Volunteer Coordinator should remain teachable and possess a passion for furthering the Mission of The Salvation Army.

The Social Services & Volunteer Coordinator will oversee all aspects of the Social Services & Volunteer Programs including but not limited to budgets, personnel & program development, under the direction of the Corps Commanding Officers.

The Social Services & Volunteer Coordinator must be able to render direct casework and/or group work service to clients recognizing their physical, emotional, spiritual, and social needs, making full use of agency and community resources under the direction of the Corps Commanding Officers.









Responsibilities






Social Services
• Understand, promote and facilitate the Mission of The Salvation Army, at all times.
• Ensure that all communications and concerns related to operation of the Social Services Program, be handled in accordance with the proper protocols for the Cleveland West Park Corps & Greater Cleveland Area Services.
• Work with the Cleveland West Park Corps staff to foster cooperative relationships, in meeting the holistic needs of the community.
• Responsible for sharing with the Corps Commanding Officers, all matters of mutual concern relating to the total welfare of the Social Services Program.
• Performs the full range of Social Service worker duties. This includes obtaining and recording case data, making needs assessments, developing treatment plans and goals; and carrying out the treatment process which may include making appropriate referrals and follow-ups.
• Keeps up-to-date records and statistics as required by The Salvation Army and external partners.
• Regularly meet with supervisor for case and administrative consultation. Also, takes own initiative to contact supervisor whenever priority or emergency situations occur.
• To upgrade skills through mandatory department in-service training meetings, supervisory meetings, and current relevant readings.
• To contribute to the development of the department by providing data from one’s own practice and other sources, suggesting areas for study and programming.
• May prepare written work for advancing social services in the agency.
• Liaise on behalf of the agency, to the social services community and present the agency’s program to public or civic groups.
• Contact other social service agencies regarding the client situation for the purpose of making interagency referrals and for the development of resources for the client.
• Provide supervision and training for assigned interns.

 

Food Services
• Provide direct oversight of the Food Pantry staff, volunteers and the administration of the Food Pantry program, in accordance with internal and external policies.
• Provide direct oversight of the Produce Giveaway and the coordination of other corps feeding program activities, in accordance with internal and external policies.

 

Volunteers
• Work with other Department Heads at the Corps to determine volunteer training needs of the facility.
• Ensure all volunteers are screened, processed through the appropriate channels, and complete required trainings prior to commencing their service.
• Assist Department Heads in the maintenance of volunteer records, including necessary time records.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: As directed by the Corps Commanding Officers:
• Serve as primary liaison for registrations for Camp NEOSA summer programming
• Responsible to develop and foster relationships with perspective families for camping program participation.
• Serve as a primary contact for Christmas Toys/Angel Tree Program at the Cleveland West Park Corps.
• Assist with special events, as assigned to foster greater community engagement.
• Promote observance of the moral and ethical code affecting program participants and staff.
• Must be able to liaise with external (Food Bank, local government, etc.) and off-site (DHQ) personnel.
• Must attend and contribute to Cleveland West Park Leadership Team Meetings.
• Serve as a member of the Case Management Team, during disaster emergencies.
• Perform related duties, as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Social Services & Volunteer Coordinator will provide direct supervision to:
• Food Pantry Coordinator & Staff
• Assigned Interns & AARP participants
• Volunteers









Qualifications






• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (or related field) from an accredited institution and at least 1 year of supervisory experience OR a Masters’ Degree in Social Work (or related field) from an accredited institution and at least 6 months of supervisory experience.
• Ability to understand the obligations, functions, programs, and services of the agency and their relation to staff, clients, community, and general social welfare, and ability to appraise these relationships.
• Capability to recognize and to elicit psychological and physical factors, to differentiate subjective from objective factors and capability to understand the origin, meaning, significance and inter-relationship of theses factors.
• Potential to plan treatment appropriate to the evaluated data and to execute the treatment plan in such a manner as to aid clients to function more adequately.
• The ability to express and to transmit ideas and knowledge clearly.
• The ability to express and to maintain relationships within and outside the agency in a professional manner.
• Ability to organize own time and effort to meet assigned situations and work demands.
• Ability to reflect on own performance capabilities and limitations with some accuracy.
• Ability to use supervision constructively for one’s own professional development and growth.
