Required Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to research and execute testing methods using Good Laboratory Practices.
  • Basic understanding of physical and chemical properties materials.
  • Ability to write technical reports and presentations that detail methods and findings.
  • Ability to solve technical problems related to material characterizations and material properties.
  • Ability to develop new testing techniques related to product testing and material characterization.
  • Understanding of MS Office suite
  • Ability to interact with other Technicians, R&D Scientists, R&D Lab Supervisors as well as Daramic plant technicians and engineers to communicate test results and complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Ability to interact with outside vendors, and outside testing facilities to assure that samples, supplies, and test results are timely and accurate.

Expectations

  • Understands chemical principles and properties for the molecules that serve as building blocks for microporous membranes (such as, silica, polymers, surfactants, coatings etc.), and can apply that knowledge.
  • Able to research new test procedures and equipment or develops updates for current test procedures.
  • Works with the Production and Quality Departments to provide process support and assist in troubleshooting process, equipment and testing procedure issues.
  • Serves as a senior member of the analytical team supporting team members on analytical method development, material characterization and material property evaluation.
  • Coordinates maintenance and upkeep of laboratory and laboratory equipment, and installation of new equipment or systems.
  • Analyzes data using statistical analysis and data analysis software.
  • Able to run and evaluate data from chemical and analytical equipment such as GC-MS, particle size analyzer, DSC, Instron, ICP, wet chemistry methods, FTIR, etc.
  • Prepares reports for internal distribution on testing conducted.
  • Able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Able to collaborate and work with other team members when called upon.
  • Identify, remove, pack, transport, or dispose of hazardous materials, including but not limited to acids, bases, surfactants, and other process related chemicals.

Working Conditions

General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require standing and walking for up to 50% of the time. Lighting and temperature are adequate. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard equipment available. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount to force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects including the human body.

Candidate Requirements

Education:                                    Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science or related field

             

Professional experience:            3-5 years of analytical lab experience.
