Job Description:

Electronic circuit designer of digital and analog control systems for power tools. Engineer will be responsible for design and verification of both hardware and firmware for control systems circuitry in various power tool applications with a focus on battery management systems (BMS). No prior BMS experience is required but would be a major benefit.

Job functions include development of circuit schematics and PCB layouts including component selection and generation of BOMs and well as firmware architecture and development. Additionally, the engineer will be involved in the creation of production testing documents, creation and execution of verification testing, and other similar formal steps necessary before production.

The candidate must have a can-do attitude, be willing to learn new technical skills, and will be able to function in a mixed technical setting – at least some of each software and hardware. An ideal candidate would be comfortable in hands-on situations (e.g., PCB rework, measurement equipment) and be able to approach problems from a theoretical perspective (e.g., simulation and calculations).  Lastly, strong time-management skills and a production-focused mindset are required traits.

Experience and/or desire to work with power tools and home improvement is a major plus.

Benefits:

  • Full ownership of new projects; sense of accomplishment when “your” product is on store shelves
  • Will work in a small group of electrical & embedded engineers with a collegial atmosphere
  • Interact with component manufacturers to keep informed of new technologies and even help influence their direction
  • We strive for constant improvement, both in our design processes and in employees' technical skills: Formal onboarding for 2yrs + Optional leadership development program, mentorship, continuing education reimbursement.
  • Acknowledge progress and success with both technical and managerial promotional tracks
  • Excellent support for test equipment and materials
  • Great facility: on-site gym, cafeteria, outside acres to walk, jog and bike (mapped woods trail!), and participation in team-building extracurricular activities

  • Minimum BS Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree
  • 2-10 years’ relevant work experience
  • Proficient in C programming language, some experience with microcontroller programming
  • Comfortable setting up and performing tests on hardware with common test and measurement equipment -- oscilloscopes, multimeter, power supplies, etc.
  • Comfortable and capable of explaining technical issues to technical and non-technical audiences in email, via PowerPoint, and in meetings
  • Able to travel to Asia as necessary:  Typically 0%. Up to 5%

Prefer:

  • Embedded Battery management system (BMS) experience – Li-Ion
  • Experience with power electronics design and testing in other applications - motor control, AC/DC DC/DC conversion, etc
  • Experience with SPICE modeling software such as LTSpice, Multism
  • Proficiency with Printed Circuit Board layout and development tools – Altium in particular
  • Experience with firmware design and architecture, working on a large software project collaboratively with other team members.
  • Experience and desire to work on power tool products
