Job Responsibilities


At the Office of Materials and Research (OMR) District 5 Laboratory in Florence, performs testing on highway construction materials for compliance to SCDOT specifications. This includes asphalt, soils, fine and coarse aggregates, and concrete cylinders. Performs calculations for all tests and checks results for compliance with appropriate specifications. Prepares test reports and posting of reports to SCDOT applications and OMR tracking systems. Maintains project files.

Processes samples received for testing. Verifies data in AASHTOWare Project (AWP) for file numbers, charge codes, and other pertinent sample information. Assists with coordination of lab testing activities. Assists with the proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous wastes in accordance with DHEC regulations. Maintains laboratory Safety Data Sheet {SDS) records.

Assists with the district laboratory's accreditation program which includes equipment calibration, verification, and maintenance as well as the AASHTO resource/CCRL proficiency sample program and records. Performs other related duties as assigned.


Minimum and Additional Requirements


A high school diploma and one (1) year of experience that is related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves frequent bending, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May require occasional exposure to noise. May require working outside of normal work schedules and weekends.
