Job Title: Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: CEO
Job Purpose
The Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator facilitates community outreach, mission awareness, and volunteer engagement as a part of YWCA St Joseph’s growing team.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Build awareness of YWCA St Joseph using a community-centered approach.
- Recruit, interview, train, match, and work alongside YWCA St Joseph’s diverse and committed volunteer base.
- Provide support to staff supervisors and volunteers to ensure that volunteer placements are a rewarding and meaningful experience.
- Coordinate with HR to complete background checks on potential volunteers.
- Schedule and supervise, as needed, volunteers in the provision of services.
- Ensure that volunteers have training and resources necessary to provide client centered, trauma informed services when engaged with clients.
- Foster relationships with community partners and universities to develop meaningful relationships for outreach and volunteers.
- Plan and implement all volunteer recognition and appreciation efforts.
- Maintain volunteer files and record of all volunteer hours and projects.
- Maintain community and partner event calendar and coordinate YWCA outreach events.
- Coordinate volunteers for YWCA annual events throughout the year including Until Justice Just Is, Women of Excellence.
- Assist with fundraising efforts as assigned. Develop and execute fundraising projects.
- Organize and implement annual donation drive events, including back to school and Miracle on 8th Street.
- Promote program and organization needs to keep individuals motivated, engaged, and informed about YWCA St Joseph.
- Maintain statistics and complete reports as assigned.
- Attend staff meetings and training as required and/or assigned.
- Commitment to the YWCA mission of Eliminating Racism and Empowering Women.
- Other related duties as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in human service or related field or equivalent education and/or experience, preferred.
- Ability to build trusting, authentic relationships with community members, partners, volunteers, and colleagues, while maintaining professional boundaries
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience with public speaking and facilitating groups/meetings with a range of audiences
- Proficiency in using social media to boost awareness.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Basic computer skills and ability to use agency electronic record program.
- Valid driver’s license and insured vehicle that meets organization requirements.
- Ability to travel.
- Ability to work flexible hours, evening and weekend events.
Working Conditions
- Forty (40) hour workweek with flexibility regarding days/times to meet organizational needs and/or deadlines.
- Some evenings/weekends may be required.
- Employee typically works in an office environment and is protected from weather conditions and contaminants, but is required to travel to/from community presentations/events, hospital advocacy, etc.
- On-call responsibilities related to hospital advocacy.
Physical Requirements
- Standing or sitting for long periods, bending, stooping and occasional lifting.
- Repetitive hand motion (such as typing)
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Ability, on a consistent basis, to perform activities requiring cooperation, instruction, persuasion or speaking with others.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person with community members and consumers.
