As a non-profit, multi-service agency serving Greater King County, we focus on providing wraparound support that promotes lasting, positive change.
Through our Housing Services, we help families maintain and regain stable housing. Our Early Learning program provides Pre-K education to children experiencing homelessness, ensuring they get a strong start in life. The free Family Store offers essential clothing and items for children aged 0–17, while our Employee Stability Program helps individuals maintain housing stability and stay gainfully employed as they navigate life’s challenges.

Position Purpose:
The Volunteer and Community Engagement Coordinator organizes a dynamic volunteer program to enhance volunteer acquisition, retention, and donor conversion. This public-facing role oversees donation drives and supports workplace giving partnerships, a diverse volunteer associate board and volunteer-related fundraising activities.
Essential Functions:
- Volunteer Program Management: Organize a year-round volunteer program to inspire community engagement in preventing and ending family homelessness. Recruit, onboard, train, and retain volunteers to meet organizational and client needs. Oversee and manage Family Store volunteers, both individuals and groups, including project set-up and breakdown, explaining tasks and being available for guidance throughout the volunteer session. Design and conduct orientations and training sessions and implement volunteer management best practices. Maintain volunteer policies, procedures, and database for tracking hours and employer match. Collaborate with the Development team to create opportunities to convert volunteers to donors and vice versa.
- Volunteer Recruitment & Stewardship: Lead outreach efforts to increase visibility and participation in Wellspring’s Volunteer Program. Build relationships with businesses, community organizations, schools, and groups to promote volunteer opportunities. Attend volunteer recruitment and tabling events. Create and maintain volunteer program job descriptions and collateral for print, web and social media promotion for outreach. Screen, and match volunteers to opportunities; onboard, train, and supervise volunteers.
- Wellspring Associate Board (WAB) Support: Collaborate with the Development team to support the all-volunteer, young professionals WAB. Assist with WAB meetings, fundraising activities, and events.
- Community Engagement & Drives: Manage in-kind donation drives including our inspirational holiday gift drive for children. Coordinate and host in-kind donation drives with community partners to gather essential items for the Wellspring Family Store. Foster relationships with local businesses, schools, and organizations to secure ongoing support to maintain Family Store inventory.
- Fundraising and Corporate Engagement: Engage volunteers in programs that deepen their commitment to Wellspring, often leading to financial contributions. Encourage volunteers to contribute to fundraising campaigns. Link volunteering to fundraising and sponsorship opportunities. Promote workplace giving and matching gifts to corporate volunteer groups. Support Wellspring’s relationships with corporations, community organizations, key stakeholders, and donors. Conduct on-site tours for donors and community groups as needed. Engage corporations in in-kind donation drives.
- Program Support: Regularly communicate and collaborate with program managers and other staff to ensure the volunteer activities meet programmatic needs.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Prepare and deposit incoming checks in a timely manner in accordance with organizational and bank procedures.
- Serve as a backup to the Office Coordinator as needed, including covering the front desk.
- Support Wellspring values by acting in a manner consistent with those values.
- Additional tasks and projects may be assigned as needed.
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience managing or supporting volunteer programs and events. Additional corporate volunteer engagement is a plus.
- Effectively network and transition fundraising prospects to the Development team.
- Demonstrated drive and passion for developing volunteers, corporate partnerships, and donor relationships.
- Excellent customer service and experience working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce or other similar donor databases.
- Proficient with multiple technology platforms including Microsoft Office Suite and Zoom.
- Strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, detail oriented, efficient, good time management, and ability to multitask. Comfortable with public speaking.
- Highly collaborative team player.
- Highly developed awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion, with evolved ability to practice appropriate, relevant and thoughtful strategies for working with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications:
The following qualifications have been identified as particularly beneficial and candidates who have attained them will be preferred in the hiring process.
- Two or more years’ professional experience managing or supporting volunteer programs and events for a nonprofit agency.
- One or more years of experience in fundraising or community engagement
Physical & Mental Requirements:
- Washington State resident at start date.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
- The ability to lift, carry, or move items of up to 25 pounds.
- The ability to stand or walk during volunteer sessions, typically lasting around 2 hours.
- The ability to understand, express and exchange complex ideas in a fast-paced environment.
- The ability to communicate detailed or important information to clients and/or co-workers through written documents and emails and through verbal means over the telephone, using virtual meeting platforms, and in person.
- The ability to use a computer for long periods of time. Adaptive accommodations may be available as needed.
- A moderate amount of moving around in a standard office environment may be needed.
