Job Description

The ALS Society of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia is a registered nonprofit organization committed to ensuring quality care for individuals living with ALS, raising public awareness about the disease and its effects, and supporting research aimed at finding a cure.

The ALS Society takes pride in being a voice for people living with ALS and advocate for people and their families helping them navigate through a confusing and difficult disease with dignity and purpose.

We invite qualified candidates to express their interest in serving as Volunteer Treasurer at the society’s head office in Dartmouth. This role offers flexible hours, with an expected commitment of approximately 2 hours per month.

As the Volunteer Treasurer, your responsibilities will include overseeing general accounting and financial reporting tasks such as:

• Review and sign-off of month-end statements


• Preparation of year-end statements


• Assist in budget preparation


• Board reporting


• Oversight of internal systems and controls


• Performing other accounting duties as needed

The ideal candidate will possess a CPA and have a minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience. You are a confident self-starter with a proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment and have a passion for supporting non-profit work.

Strong attention to detail, time management skills, along with professional spoken and written communication skills are essential. Experience with QuickBooks is an asset.
