This position is not eligible for a hybrid work model. Your primary office location will be based out of Halton Court Services, 4085 Palladium Way, Burlington Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.

Position Overview

This Internship opportunity will provide hands-on work experience for a current student entering the fourth-year Paralegal Degree Program student.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing files to ensure reasonable prospect of conviction;

  • Understanding of the resolution process, the resolutions offered and if/when these are offered;

  • Speak with defendants regarding their charges and offer resolution if applicable;

  • Address the court and complete resolutions on record;

  • Assist with disclosure review and sending of disclosures;

  • Create and send correspondence to defendants with respect to matters dispensed with in court.

Requirements

Student must have completed 3rd year and are going into your 4th year of a Paralegal Degree program and have successfully completed the Provincial Offences course; Ability to learn new technology, understand the role of the Prosecutor; Willing to present in court and communicate with defendants (once trained and with supervision); Customer Service Skills are required.

Police Check Requirement

This position requires the successful candidate to provide a clear criminal record check at their own expense.
